Because it is impossible to love what we do not know, Granito de Arena reveals the harsh reality of coastal communities in the Dominican Republic. Along the country's beautiful shores, overfishing and pollution threaten marine life and the future of the communities that depend on it. Faced with illegal fishing, industrial pollution, and irresponsible tourism, environmentalists, residents, and seafarers each contribute their grain of sand to defend a natural paradise on the verge of disappearing. Featuring rare footage and underwater expeditions, the film bears witness to this struggle and makes an urgent plea for life beneath the surface.
